How many weeks are there in a year? 48 or 53?

Calculation of weeks in a year leads to confusion when a person calculates it based on weeks in a month. This is not the confusion rather a human error.

Usually, we count it based on weeks in a month.  We know that there are four weeks in a month. And a year consists of 12 months. Using this data the weeks in a year are:

1 month = 4 weeks

12 months = x

By cross multiplication:

Ø (1 month)(x) = (4 weeks)(12 months)

Ø X = 48 weeks

But this is wrong because we are ignoring the fact that there is variation in days in certain months. We will explain it by going from the basics (days in each month).

Months with 30 days:

There are certain months which consist of 30 days. These include:

April

June

September

November

Here when we divide 30 by 7 in the calculator, we get 4.28 weeks instead of 4. This 0.28 matters a lot in calculations of weeks in a year.

The Months with 31 days:

The majority of months consist of 31 days. These include:

January

March

May

July

August

October

December

Now dividing 31 by 7 in the calculator, we get 4.82 weeks instead of 4. This 0.42 also affects our above classical calculations and makes it wrong indeed.

The Month with 28 days:

February contains 28 days usually, but after every ten years, There comes one February which consists of 29 days.

Here dividing 28/7, we get exactly 4weeks in the calculator. Therefore only February is right for our above classical calculations.  The remaining all make some error.

Accurate calculations:

According to the above-mentioned data, it is wrong to calculate the number of weeks in a year based on weeks in a month. Instead, an easy and accurate way is to find weeks based on the total days present in a year. Because by adding the weeks in the above three categories (31, 30, and 28 days containing months), we will get the answer in friction and, the error is very possible.

We know that a year consists of 365 days and a week consists of 7 days. Hereby dividing 365/7, we can get the exact number of weeks in a year.

Dividing 365 by 7 in the calculator, we get 52.14 weeks.

Conclusion:

Based on the above discussion, it can be concluded that indeed a year consists of 52 weeks instead of 48. A year consists of 52 weeks and a day to be precise.
