COVID-19 and The Veterinarians
Veterinarian response to the COVID-19 Crisis
Accidental deaths are increasing day
by day. “New diseases are originating from nowhere” this sentence is a disputed
one. There are two groups of perceptions of which, no one can be neglected. One
group of scientists believes that these diseases existed in old times as well
but there was no technology to detect them. In other words, science has not
prevailed that much. The other group claims that these diseases were not
present in old ages it is the mutation, which is responsible for new strains of
pathogens and hence diseases. They suggest that environmental change is also
one of the factors in the origin of new disease.
Nowadays the whole world is facing
a disaster due to the COVID-19 pandemic. India, Italy, America, and Brazil are
among the most affected countries. Only India has witnessed 330,000 new cases
and 2000 deaths in just 24 hours once in April. Pakistan is also not the one
safe from it, we are also witnessing a lot of new cases and deaths every day.
People from every field of life responded to this pandemic differently. Most of
the people have restricted themselves to homes and even stopped to go for work,
job or office. Yet there exist some people who can't stay at homes which
include doctors and veterinarians along with policemen.
Veterinarians responded to this
pandemic even better than human doctors. On one hand, they perform their duty
by visiting the farms in emergency cases, and on the other hand, most of them
have arranged online consultations, free of cost for poor and anxious farmers.
This arrangement has enhanced their respect not only in the hearts of poor
people but also in society. They are also praised internationally for their act
of showing humanity and concern about their field and wanderers.
Not many days ago, there was
a trending post regarding veterinarians stated that "I can't stay at home
because I am a veterinarian". This post visually has just a broad spectrum
meaning of concern about the duty one has to perform, but going too narrow, it
has carried a huge message in it. The writer wanted to make people admit that
how important the veterinarian is for a country. The patients of a veterinarian
have neither tongues to narrate their problems to the doctor, nor the hands
like humans to express where they are feeling pain. This is the reason that a
veterinarian can't stay at home. They have to visit the speechless animals. And
they are visiting them, following proper Sops.
The veterinarians put their every
possible hand to make people aware of this lethal virus and the destruction it
may cause. For this purpose, they used Infectious bronchitis in poultry as an
example which is also caused by a different strain of coronavirus in birds.
They demonstrated the dangerous effects of IB in poultry to the people just to
spread awareness about COVID-19.
The veterinarians played every
possible role to put out the country of the crisis and cope with danger due to
this pandemic. They are on the top list of researchers who seek a possible
solution to the coronavirus. This is the
University of veterinary and animal science Pakistan's faculty, who researched
for and prepared vaccines against the coronavirus for the first time in
Pakistan.
It is obvious from the above
discussion that the veterinarians responded to the crisis due to coronavirus
infection bravely, enthusiastically, and humbly. They are doing their duty
without hesitation following proper Sops because they are field worriers and
know how to make sure their safety not only in this pandemic but also in any
other dangerous situations. And that is what is taught to them.
